Our Journey

Our journey with child loss.jpg

Tepley was - and is - the light of our lives. She was only twenty months old, but she was a wise little soul with plenty of sass, curiosity and hugs for all. Please feel free to browse her amazingness here.

What happened? One Monday, Tepley was out of sorts when she came home from daycare, but by the next morning, she seemed better and still had no fever or cough. She had always been the healthiest kid in class, so we assumed it was fine. We got a call that morning from school that she was upset, so we took her straight to the doctor. She had a couple of strange symptoms (her jaw was very swollen), but they did the normal checks and said she had a cold and to come back in two days. The next day, she looked weaker and not her normal self, so we took her back. They added checks and a second opinion, but said she had a cold. I was up with her during the night, making sure she had fluids when she woke. The next morning, she stood up in her crib, came to the couch with her father, and passed away quietly in his arms.

In my will to survive, I started writing letters to my friends and family to tell them how we were doing and how they could help. Understandably, they were worried.

I am posting these letters, and all the many things we have tried in the hopes that it will help someone else find a path forward with their baby having passed away.
